The challenge
Entering the Swiss market while maintaining established processes
Following the success in Germany, the target group was soon to be expanded to include the neighbouring markets - including Switzerland. However, the Mannheim-based company quickly realised that shipping to non-EU countries significantly differs from shipping within Europe. After the first test parcels were sent and promptly returned, it became clear that a new solution was needed for shipping to Switzerland.
With his extensive experience in fulfilment and warehousing, Jonas Walter, Logistics Manager at SNOCKS, knew what was important in choosing an expansion partner:
”For us, it was especially important to outsource the entire customs and tax issue. We wanted a reliable partner, streamlined processes, and maximum efficiency through automation.“
The path
Several expansion partners made it to the shortlist, but for many service providers, only consolidated customs clearance of goods was considered viable. For SNOCKS, this would have meant having to attach additional documents to each individual parcel or manually transmit Excel spreadsheets.
”This would not only have caused significant extra effort but also considerably more costs,“ explains Jonas Walter.
”With exporto, all of this is automated and purely digital. This means we can maintain our processes - regardless of whether the parcel is shipped to Germany or Switzerland.“

The solution

The decision to collaborate with exporto was swiftly made. The automated customs and tax processing means no extra work for the SNOCKS Operations Team: ”The products are packed in our warehouse, the parcel is labeled, and that‘s it. We don‘t need double wrapping or additional documents,“ reports Jonas Walter.
Additionally, individual customs clearance allows SNOCKS to save on costs for each parcel, as lower import duties are incurred compared to consolidated customs clearance. This significantly boosts the profitability of individual sales to Switzerland. SNOCKS is extremely satisfied to have achieved its expansion goals with exporto:
”Logistically, it makes no difference to us whether we‘re shipping to Switzerland or Germany – the effort is the same.”
A glance at the monthly parcel volume to Switzerland clearly shows the growth SNOCKS has been able to record since working with exporto.
During the first three months of the collaboration, the Mannheim based company managed to increase its parcel volume by 300%, and in their peak sales months of April and May, they even achieved a 700% growth rate. Since then, the volume has maintained a consistently high level.
